This seminar deals with spin-related phenomena in solid state physics.

The focus of the seminar will be on
1. spin mechanics : the interaction between elastic and magnetic degrees of freedom
2. spin dynamics   : the dynamical properties of spin ensembles.
Both topics have substantial overlap with magnetism-related research activities at the WMI and the TUM physics department. Seminar talks can be given either in English or in German.

The seminar is relevant for the special courses on "Magnetism and Spintronics". It is suitable for bachelor and master students in the 6. semester and higher.

  3. Spin caloritronics (magneto-elastic & magneto-caloric effects with a spin)
  4. Spin Seebeck effect
  5. Spinning top versus Larmor precession
  6. RF measurement techniques (waveguides, cavities, and network analysis)
  7. Electron paramagnetic resonance
  8. Magnetic susceptibility from DC to RF
  9. Landau-Lifshitz-equation and precessional switching
  10. Ferromagnetic resonance
  11. Magnetic damping
  12. Spin pumping
  13. Anisotropic magnetoresistance and giant magnetoimpedance
  14. Brillouin light scattering
  15. Time-resolve Kerr magnetometry
  16. Ultrafast demagnetization
