Ph.D. Thesis: Magnetic Resonance of Ferrimagnetic Insulators (2018)
In his Ph.D. thesis, which was supervised by PD Dr. Sebastian Gönnenwein, Hannes Maier-Flaig was working on magnetic resonance experiments on magnetic insulators. He investigated the two ferrimagnetic iron garnet materials yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and gadolinium iron garnet (GdIG) using ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). He developed an experimental setup and a novel method for the analysis of frequency-swept broadband FMR, which is used to quantify the magnetization damping and the magnetic anisotropy of YIG and GdIG. Furthermore, he investigated the coupling of magnetic excitations to cavity photons, and the resonant generation of spin currents in iron garnets.
