Ph.D. Thesis: Spin Pumping in Ferrimagnetic/Normal Metal Bilayers (2015)
In his Ph.D. thesis, Johannes Lotze was performing spin pumping experiments in systems consisting of ferrimagnetic insulators and normal metals. Spin pumping is the generation of a pure spin current in a normal metal layer, driven by ferromagnetic resonance in a magnetic layer. In this thesis, Johannes Lotze performed spin pumping on both thin film and bulk yttrium iron garnet/platinum bilayers, exploring spin pumping in the strong coupling regime. He also investigated spin pumping in compensating ferrimagnets and antiferromagnets using gadolinium iron garnet/platinum and manganese(II) fluoride/platinum bilayers. Furthermore, he performed spin Hall magnetoresistance measurements at microwave frequencies.
