Dr. Matthias Althammer is a Junior Research Group Leader at the Walther-Meißner-Institut working in the field of magnetism and spintronics. His main field of research is dedicated to the investigation of angular momentum transport in solid state materials. A very important aspect in his research is spin angular momentum transport in magnetic insulators, which led for example to the discovery of the spin Hall magnetoresistance effect. His research is a materials first initiative, which is acting as the cornerstone for the investigation of quantum materials and hybrid structures.
