Sebastian Gönnenwein was member of the Gross group at WMI as a postdoc and senior scientist between 2005 and 2016. In his time at WMI, he was pioneering and promoting several fields in magnetism and spintronics, such as spin mechanics, magnetization dynamics, spin caloritronics, magnonics, and the physics of pure spin currents.

Habilitation Thesis: Multifunctional Magnetic Materials and Devices (2010)

Sebastian Gönnenwein was leaving WMI in 2016 to become full professor at TU Dresden. In 2020, he accepted an offer as a W3 professor at the University of Konstanz, where he is heading the group on Modern Materials Science.
