Dr. Tobias Wimmer

- Alumnus/Alumna: Magnetism and Spintronics
Tobias Wimmer was member of the Gross group at WMI as a aster and Ph.D. student between 2015 and 2021.
Master Thesis: Spin Transport in Magnetic Nanostructures (2016)
Ph.D. Thesis: Control and Manipulation of Magnonic Spin Currents in Magnetic Insulators (2021)
Tobias Wimmer was working on experiments aiming at the generation and control of pure spin currents in magnetic nanostructures. In particular, he implemented magnon transport in ferrimagnetic and antiferromagnetic insulators. His most important results include (i) the demonstration of spin transport through a magnetic insulator with fully compensated magnetic damping accompanied by the possible formation of a magnon Bose-Einstein condensate and (ii) the coherent control of antiferromagnetic spin excitations, allowing for an interconversion between right-/left-circularly as well as linearly polarized magnons.
He left WMI in June 2021 to become a patent attorney with Dörries Frank-Molnia & Pohlman Patentanwälte Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB.
