Jürgen Schuler was member of the Gross group at WMI as Ph.D. student between 2001 and 2005.
Ph.D. Thesis: Ferromagnetische Einzelladungstransistoren (2005)
In his Ph.D. thesis, Jürgen Schuler faricated and characterized Ferromagnetic Single Electron Transistors (F-SET), which offer an approach to the rich interplay between single charge and tunnel magnetoresistance effects. To investigate this interplay experimentally, he developed a process for fabricating these devices based on electron beam lithography and shadow evaporation and realized a measurement system providing a resolution far better than 300 fA. He succeeded in realizing F-SETs and described their properties by an extended orthodox theory (OT). He could show that in the regime of small magnetic fields the behaviour of the devices is most likely governed by tunnel magnetoresistance effects.
After finishing his Ph.D. thesis, he left WMI to become a Patent Attorney, presently affiliated with FICPI in Munich.
