Kathrin Ganzhorn was member of the Gross group at WMI as a Master and Ph.D. Student between 2014 and 2017.
Master Thesis: Experimental Study of Spin Currents in Compensated Rare Earth Garnets (2014)
Ph.D. Thesis: Spin Transport in Insulating Ferrimagnets (2018)
In her Ph.D. thesis, which was supervised by PD Dr. Sebastian Gönnenwein, Kathrin Ganzhorn was working on the physics of pure spin currents in rare earth iron garnets. She studied the spin angular momentum transport in bilayers consisting of a ferrimagnetic insulator and a platinum layer. She could demonstrate experimentally that in such a heterostructure spin currents can be used to probe the magnetic sublattice configuration even in non-collinear ferrimagnets. Furthermore, she investigated the transfer of information carried by spin waves (magnons) in the ferrimagnetic insulator and demonstrated the implementation of logic operations within the magnonic system.
After leavingWMI she joined Infineon Technologies AG.
