Dr. Manuel Schwarz
- Alumnus/Alumna: Quantum Systems
Manuel Schwarz was member of the Gross group at WMI as a Master and Ph.D. Student between 2007 and 2014.
Master Thesis: Aufbau und Charakterisierung eines FMR-Spektrometers für X- und K-Band (2008)
Ph.D. Thesis: Superconducting Flux Qubits with Tunable Gap (2015)
In his Ph.D. thesis, Manuel Schwarz was developing flux qubits with tunable gap gap-tunable and studying superconducting quantum circuits. In circuit quantum electrodynamics or quantum simulation experiments, superconducting quantum bits with long coherence time, high in situ tunability and usually large anharmonicity are required. In contrast to the popular transmon qubit, the gradiometric tunable-gap flux qubit meets all these requirements. Manuel Schwarz fabricated and characterized such a qubit and demonstrated its first implementation into a transmission line resonator. He achieved spectroscopy and first time domain results on this qubit type.
He left WMI in December 2014 to join IAV GmbH.
