Dr. Thomas Luschmann
- Alumnus/Alumna: Quantum Systems
- Alumnus/Alumna: IT Services
Thomas Luschmann was a member of the Gross group as a Master and Ph.D. Student at WMI between 2017 and 2024.
Master Thesis: Coupling Strings, String Networks and Magnon-Phonon Interaction (2018)
Ph.D. Thesis: Interfacing Microwaves, Mechanical Vibrations, and Sound Waves through Superconducting Quantum Circuits (2024)
In his Ph.D. thesis, which was supervised by PD Dr. Hans Huebl, Thomas Luschmann explored nano-electromechanical devices, where the motion of nanoscale mechanical oscillators interacts with the magnetic flux in a superconducting SQUID. In particular, he developed fabrication techniques and experimental protocols to achieve high single-photon coupling rates, demonstrate sideband cooling and effective mechanical frequency control. Additionally, he studied SAW devices on thin-film lithium niobate regarding their suitability for quantum applications.
In 2024, Thomas Luschmann co-founded the WMI spin-off Peak Quantum where he currently acts as COO.
