Dr. Jan Goetz
- Alumnus/Alumna: Quantum Systems
Jan Goetz was member of the Gross group as a Master and Ph.D. Student WMI between 2011 and 2017.
Master Thesis: Gradiometric Flux Quantum Bits with Tunable Tunnel Coupling (November 2011)
Ph.D. Thesis: The Interplay of Superconducting Quantum Circuits and Propagating Microwave States (June 2017)
In his Ph.D. thesis, Jan Goetz studied the interplay of superconducting quantum circuits and fundamental properties of microwave states. In particular, he analyzed the loss mechanisms in coplanar waveguide resonators and in superconducting quantum bits. Using quantum bits as detectors, he could show the super-Poissonian photon statistics of weak thermal microwaves. He confirmed this result by direct measurements of the microwave fields using near-quantum-limited amplifiers. Furthermore, he studied selection rules for quadrupolar quantum bits via the symmetry of microwave fields.
Jan Goetz left WMI in 2017 for a postdoc stay at Aalto university in Finland. He is CEO & Co-Founder of IQM Quantum Computers.
